Aari embroidery is a traditional Indian hooked‑needle chain‑stitch technique that creates continuous, flowing designs much faster than regular needle embroidery. The Aari technique uses a specialized hooked needle (aari or tambour hook) to pull thread from below the fabric, forming a fine, smooth chain stitch on fabric stretched over a frame. Aari embroidery originated in Gujarat, evolving from leather decoration by cobblers to refined textile embellishment using intricate motifs.
