Sustainable Women's Clothing, Handcrafted from Upcycled Saris

I Was a Sari makes sustainable women's clothing from upcycled saris: dresses, jumpsuits, tops, co-ords, skirts, trousers, kimonos, kaftans, outerwear and nightwear — every piece one of a kind.

Each garment is handcrafted by women artisans in Mumbai from a single pre-loved sari, so its print, colour and drape can never be repeated. The result is expressive, comfortable fashion made with zero textile waste.

What makes I Was a Sari clothing sustainable?

Every piece is made from an existing sari rather than new fabric, keeping textiles out of landfill. Production is small-batch and entirely hand-finished, and each purchase funds skills training and fair income for women artisans in India.

What's included in the clothing collection?

The collection spans everyday essentials and statement pieces across every category:

  • Dresses & jumpsuits: Fluid, breathable silhouettes for day and occasion.
  • Tops & shirts: Versatile layers in one-of-a-kind sari prints.
  • Skirts & trousers: Easy, comfortable shapes that move with you.
  • Kimonos & kaftans: Flowing throw-on layers for effortless elegance.
  • Co-ord sets: Coordinated two-pieces, styled together or apart.
  • Bomber jackets: Our signature cropped jacket, lined and colourful.
  • Nightwear & loungewear: Soft, breathable pieces for rest and home.

Why is every garment unique?

Because each one starts from a different sari, no two pieces share the same colour, print or drape. That makes every garment personal, timeless and seasonless by design.

Made by women artisans in Mumbai

From cutting to finishing, every piece is shaped by hand — conscious craftsmanship that gives heritage textiles a second life while supporting dignified, fairly paid work.
