Aari embroidery is a hand-embroidery technique using a specialized hooked needle (aari) to create continuous chain stitches on fabric stretched over a frame.
The aari hook pulls thread from below the fabric to form fine, flowing chain-stitch lines much faster than conventional needle embroidery.
Aari embroidery originated in Gujarat, evolving from cobblers’ decoration of leather goods and later adapted to textiles using intricate motifs.
