Aari embroidery is a traditional Indian hooked-needle chain-stitch technique that uses a specialised hooked needle (the “aari”) to create continuous, flowing chain stitches on fabric stretched over a frame. This technique originated in Gujarat, evolving from leather decoration by the Mochi community and later adapted to fabric embellishment with fine motifs inspired by nature and tradition.
