Cropped bomber jacket with sari lining and twin zips

Sustainable Bomber Jackets & Upcycled Outerwear

I Was a Sari outerwear is a collection of jackets, bomber jackets and layered pieces handcrafted from upcycled saris — each one unique, colourful and made with zero textile waste.
Every piece is cut and finished by women artisans in Mumbai, who transform a single rescued sari into a wearable work of craftsmanship. The result is lightweight, expressive outerwear that carries a story of transformation and fair, dignified work.

What makes I Was a Sari outerwear sustainable?

Each garment is made from a pre-loved sari rather than new fabric, keeping textiles out of landfill. Production is small-batch and hand-finished, and every purchase supports skills training and fair income for women artisans in India.

Which styles are in this collection?

The collection spans bomber jackets, gilets, waistcoats, wrap coats and lightweight robes — adaptable layers for work, travel and transitional seasons:

  • The Bomber jacket: Our signature cropped style, lined for structure and cut from a single recycled sari — colourful, easy to layer and made in one-of-a-kind prints.
  • The Love Bomber jacket: The classic bomber with hand-embroidered "Love" detailing and contrast linings inside and out.
  • The Quilted gilet: A reversible sleeveless layer in repurposed saris, made to add warmth and texture across seasons.
  • The Day waistcoat: A buttoned printed-sari vest with bright linings that adds structure over shirts, dresses or tees.
  • The Sunset coat: A relaxed wrap coat with wide sleeves and soft drape — an easy transitional layer.
  • The Bell sleeve coat: An A-line coat with flared sleeves that balances movement and shape; ideal for travel and cooler evenings.
  • The Beach robe: A lightweight full-length layer with waist ties in flowing sari fabric — part robe, part statement jacket.

Made by women artisans, with zero waste

From hand-stitched quilting to reversible linings, every piece blends conscious craftsmanship with individuality — proof that sustainable fashion can also be bold and timeless.
